Our Story
About Me
Some might call me a fussy eater; I prefer to think of myself as particular.
I’ve always had a deep love for food and a passion for transforming simple, humble ingredients into something truly special. For me, eating well never means compromising on flavour. It’s about using herbs, spices, and thoughtful combinations to create meals that sing: dishes that comfort, nourish, and leave you feeling truly held.
The food I create is wholesome, hearty, and made with intention; always served with love.
My journey with cooking began at a young age, as my mum’s sidekick in the kitchen. I learned hands-on: chopping, peeling, washing, seasoning, and preparing meals for our large family. I was deeply influenced by my Moroccan grandmother, who introduced me to rich, vibrant flavours, and by my Dutch-Welsh grandmother, who taught me the art of baking.
My summers were spent between Morocco and Ireland, where food was never just about eating: it was about connection. Long days and evenings were built around nourishing family and community. Recipes were passed down, traditions honoured, stories shared, and laughter filled the kitchen. Those moments shaped me, and I carry their spirit into every meal I prepare today.
Why The Hearty Cook?
The Hearty Cook was born from motherhood.
When my son arrived, I met two people at once: my beautiful baby boy, and a completely new version of myself. Motherhood came in powerfully, reshaping my world in ways that were both beautiful and overwhelming. My priorities shifted, my values deepened, and the life I once knew no longer fit.
In the midst of this transformation, I experienced firsthand how hard it can be to nourish yourself while caring for someone else. Breastfeeding day and night, running on little sleep, surviving on snacks and scraps; I had the skills to cook, but not the time, energy, or capacity.
As my son grew, so did the demands of daily life. Returning to work felt impossible. The emotional toll affected our whole family, and something as simple as a nourishing meal at the end of the day felt out of reach. Cooking, once joy, became another task on an endless list.
And I realised I wasn’t alone.
So many women are carrying this invisible weight, often without the support they truly need. And sometimes, that support can start with something as simple (and as powerful) as a home-cooked meal.
A New Way Forward
Leaving my career wasn’t easy. It came with fear, doubt, and the feeling that I was somehow failing, that I couldn’t “do it all.”
But eventually, I leaned in. I listened to my intuition. And I chose to create something that aligned with who I had become.
The Hearty Cook is my way of supporting others, especially mothers, in the way I once needed. Through nourishing, home-cooked food made from the heart, I aim to offer comfort, care, and a sense of being held.
This is about more than meals. It’s about community. It’s about easing the load, one plate at a time.
It’s about mothers supporting mothers: unapologetically.
